Yoga Late Winter/Early Spring 2009
Yin Yoga at Balance Point
I will be teaching on Sunday nights in February and March from 5:30 until 7:30. This class is mostly Yin Yoga (I reserve the right to bring a little Yang, if I feel called to do so!). The class is meditative and gentle, although (some say) “intense” as we hold the poses for several minutes with the use of a timer. The poses are not muscular as you would experience in a vinyasa or typical hatha yoga class but rather are held with the muscles relaxed. There are two important aspects of this practice.
One is the physical benefit to the connective tissues of the body which like slow, long, gentle stretches. These tissues are protected in Yang or muscular exercise by the engagement of the muscles.
The second aspect is mental. We hold the poses for several minutes. This requires being in relative stillness, sometimes with strong sensation in the body. How often are we still in our daily lives? This aspect of the practice teaches us many of the same benefits that meditation brings – We learn to quiet our minds, watch thoughts come and go and to not react to every impulse that arises.
Most people who attend regularly love the time that they are allowed to simply be rather than constantly doing doing doing.
Variety Yoga Class Thursday nights in Wenatchee
From 7 to 8:30 pm, I teach a small group in a private home in Wenatchee. We are always open to new students joining us. In this class, I include a little bit of everything that I know – Vinyasa, Asana and Alignment, Therapeutics, Yin and Restorative. We have been working on learning a choreographed Vinyasa for the past few weeks.
