About Joanna

In 2001, Joanna began an apprenticeship with Lynn Kingston of Northampton, Massachusetts. At that time, Lynn was still teaching her unique style of Yoga Dance, as she used to call it before anyone knew what Vinyasa was.  Influenced by her modern dance background but attracted to the mysterious magic of yoga, Lynn created elaborate choreographed vinyasas which she set to incredible music.  As with a baby duck, it was this style of Vinyasa that imprinted on Joanna’s practice.

Although her own practice remains creative, Joanna has since adapted a more traditional approach to teaching with a focus on alignment and safety in her posture work with her students.  Her study with Theresa Elliot in Seattle takes components of alignment along with the innovation that she experienced with Lynn.

In 2009, Joanna began study with Theresa along with Kathryn Payne in their 500-Hour program through Pacific Yoga.  Kathryn, a sanskrit scholar and teacher of Pranayama and Philosophy, has added new depth to Joanna’s understanding and experience of the art and science of yoga.

As a teacher of teachers, Joanna has had the opportunity to put to work some of her old Bachelor Degree and Graduate Studies in Education.  Her passion for the subject keeps growing each year.  As part of the Snowcreek Yoga Studio in Leavenworth, Washington, she teaches Intro Series, gentle yoga, as well as classes for intermediate students.  Quiet Yoga, which she offers in workshops and once a month classes, combines her background in Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Therapeutics, Breathwork and Meditation.  Joanna also teaches weekly classes in Plain, 30 minutes north of Leavenworth.

When she’s not doing yoga, Joanna loves to travel, cook, cross-country ski, hike and garden.
