The Power of Practicing Together: Family Yoga Retreats in the PNW

Over the years, something quite special has unfolded at my retreats across the Pacific Northwest and abroad.

What began as individuals seeking time to slow down, reconnect, and reset has naturally grown into something even more meaningful — a space where families come to practice, pause, and simply be together. From mother-daughter yoga retreats to weekends shared between siblings, spouses, cousins, and lifelong friends, this thread of connection continues to deepen with every gathering.

Why Families Return Again and Again

Time and again, I see families return. Mothers and daughters who have made it a yearly tradition. Sisters who carve out time for one another amidst the chaos of everyday life. Parents and grown children marking milestones or honoring new chapters. There's something incredibly grounding about practicing side by side — in movement and stillness — without the distractions of phones, to-do lists, or city schedules.

While many retreats might focus on the individual, our time together is open-hearted and inclusive. Even when you arrive as a pair, you’re never in a bubble. You’re welcomed into a wider community — a group of like-minded people who come seeking something nourishing, and who help create the warm, supportive energy that defines each retreat.

A Shared Rhythm Emerges

There’s no set formula for what unfolds at a family yoga retreat, but the feeling is consistent: peaceful, spacious, quietly joyful. As the weekend unfolds, a shared rhythm begins to form — between you and your loved one, and within the group as a whole. Whether it's your first time attending or your fourth, there’s always room to show up exactly as you are.

It’s one of the beautiful things about Yoga in the PNW — the space, the stillness, the connection to nature. Practicing in serene settings across Washington includes some of my favorite locations.

A Favorite Story: Jan, Chelsea, and Family

If you’d like to see this in action, take a moment to read about Jan and Chelsea, one of the many mother-daughter duos who have joined me over the years. Their story is especially lovely because it doesn’t stop with the two of them — they’ve brought along cousins, creating a multigenerational connection that’s both inspiring and heartwarming.

Their experience reflects what I’ve come to believe: yoga is not just an individual practice. It’s a way to connect. A way to remember the people we care most about and share something deeper than words.
